Venezuela: UN human rights chief Bachelet arrives in Caracas for three day visit

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet met with the Vice Minister for Multilateral Issues of Venezuela Felix Plasencia in Caracas on Wednesday, as part of her three day visit to the country on the invitation of the government.

Bachelet will reportedly hold separate meetings with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido. In addition, she will meet and speak with civil society leaders and “victims of human rights violence and abuses,” reports say.

At the end of her visit, on June 21, Bachelet is expected to deliver a statement. In July, she will reportedly submit a report to the UN Human Rights Council.
