UK: Trump’s state visit gets hostile reception

Protesters gathered outside the Buckingham palace in London on Monday even as the red carpet was rolled out for US president Donald Trump’s state banquet with the Queen.

Demonstrators were seen chanting anti-Trump slogans, holding placards with references to the controversial president and wearing masks of the Queen and Meghan Markle to show their disapproval of the US president.

The largest anti-Trump protests are planned for Tuesday as Trump meets UK Prime Minister Theresa May at her 10 Downing Street residence.

Trump’s three-day visit will also see him taking part in celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Portsmouth on Wednesday.
