Iraq: Hundreds march in Baghdad to protest Israel on Quds Day

Hundreds of Shiite Muslims marched in Baghdad on Friday to denounce Israel and express support for Palestine on Quds Day.

The march which began on Palestine Street included a military parade, with Shia militia members carrying Palestinian flags and walking over an Israeli flag painted on the ground. Local officials and members of parliament were also among the participants.

A scarecrow representing US President Donald Trump and wearing a t-shirt with the Israeli flag on it was spotted at the protest.

Known as Quds Day, which in Arabic means the Day of Jerusalem, the march takes place each year on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan and has drawn participation from around the world since it was introduced in 1979 by the late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Khomeini.
