Marine Le Pen declared victory for her National Rally party before a cheering crowd in Paris, Sunday, after exit polls indicated it had won the most votes in the European parliamentary elections in France. She was joined on stage by her lead candidate Jordan Bardella.
According to Ifop pollsters, National Rally won 24 percent of the vote compared to 22.5 percent for
French President Emmanuel Macron’s Republic on The Move. Another poll from Elabe confirmed similar figures, and said Le Pen’s party would reach 24 seats in the European Parliament compared to 23 seats for Macron’s party.
Le Pen made a strong call to the country to join her party, saying “I do invite all the patriots, wherever they come from, to join the National Rally” adding that “for this commitment to France we need everyone of you, in a very concrete way.”
Bardella stressed the unprecedented engagement of French voters in the European election, saying “Today May 26, the French people made its voice heard with unexpected strength. It’s a huge satisfaction for all those who never doubted, for all those who always fought and never stopped believing in France.”
