The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) captured the town of Kafr Nabudah in northern Hama from terrorist groups in a swift advance on May 8.
According to pro-government sources, the SAA stormed the strategic town in the early hours of the morning under the cover of Syrian and Russian warplanes. After few hours of heavy clashes, terrorists were forced out of the town and the army was able to secure its new gains.
Kafr Nabudah is one of the biggest towns in the northern Hama countryside. The town was a stronghold for several terrorist groups, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The Turkish-backed coalition, National Front for Liberation (NFL), also had positions in the town’s outskirt.
After losing the town, HTS targeted SAA troops inside it with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). The terrorist group’s news network, Iba’a, claimed that several Syrian soldiers were killed and injured. However, pro-government sources said that the VBIED was destroyed before reaching its target.
The SAA launched its ground operation in the northern Hama countryside on May 6. Back then, the army secured the villages of al-Bana, al-Janabira and Tell Ottman south of Kafr Nabudah.
Terrorist groups may attempt to recapture Kafr Nabudah in the upcoming few hours. This could further escalate the situation in the northern Hama countryside.
