Belgium: No-deal Brexit must be avoided by ‘all means’ – Abe at Japan-EU meet

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that a no-deal Brexit must be avoided “by all means,” while speaking at a press conference alongside European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, following the EU-Japan Summit in Brussels on Thursday.

At the press conference, Abe said that “a no-deal Brexit is what we have to avoid by all means.” He then expressed hope that it would be possible for Japanese companies to continue doing business in the UK, as the UK has served Japan as “the getaway to Europe.”

Commenting on the EU-Japan strategic partnership, Tusk commended the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which he called “the largest trade deal in the world” that sends “a clear message to the world that Japan and Europe stand side by side.”
