Greta Thunberg, a teenage climate change activist from Sweden, addressed the demonstrators at an Extinction Rebellion protest in London on Sunday, saying that they are “making a difference.”
“For way too long the politicians and the people in power have gotten away with not doing anything at all to fight the climate crisis and the ecological crisis,” she said, while delivering a speech to the Extinction Rebellion demonstrators.
“But we will make sure they will not get away with it any longer,” Thunberg added. Sixteen-year-old Thunberg is known for inspiring an international movement to fight climate change by her weekly sit-ins outside Stockholm’s Parliament with a sign reading ‘School strike for the climate’ in August 2018.
Extinction Rebellion, also known as XR, was formed last year and has three key demands: for the government to “tell the truth about climate change”; to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025; and to create a citizen’s assembly to oversee the progress.
