State of Palestine: 48 wounded in clashes along Gaza border

At least 48 Palestinians were wounded on Friday during clashes with Israeli soldiers along the eastern Gaza Strip, according to the Gazan health ministry.

Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and threw stones at soldiers, who responded with live fire, rubber bullets and tear gas canisters.

A reported 6,500 Palestinians took part in Friday’s protest.

Violence erupted on the border as Palestinians resumed their ‘Great March of Return’, a weekly protest which started in March last year. The movement demands the right for Palestinians to return to their families’ pre-1948 homes.

The UN estimates that 189 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier were killed between March and December 2018.
