Hardline Brexiteer PM Would Be ‘Electoral Suicide’, Top Tory MP Claims

The remarks come amid reports members of the 1922 Committee, which includes all backbench Tories, want to remove Theresa May May as Party leader, but leave her in Downing Street until a contest to elect her successor concludes.
Senior Conservative Party members have warned that having such hardline Brexiteers as Boris Johnson or Dominic Raab installed at No 10 would amount to electoral “suicide”, The Times reported.

 
Last month, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who survived a vote of no-confidence in December 2018, promised to step down if Tories back the Brexit withdrawal deal she negotiated with Brussels.The UK was supposed to leave the European Union on 29 March, but May opted to request a deadline extension for she repeatedly failed to gain support from British lawmakers for the withdrawal deal.
