Since the beginning of 2019 in Unsko-Sanski kanton – one of the regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina – the number of car thefts is increasing every day. Police suspect that migrants are involved in most cases, report local media with reference to the message of the Ministry of the Interior.
“It has been established that almost all crimes were committed in a similar way. Kidnappers find unsafe cars left,” the report says.
At the same time, Commissioner Muyo Koricic noted a tendency: the number of car thefts began to grow simultaneously with an increase in the flow of migrants to the administrative center of the Bihac kanton and other settlements.
A confirmation of this version is the fact that many cars were later found near the border with Croatia, through which migrants get to the European Union. Some even crossed the border on stolen vehicles, and were then arrested by Croatian police. So, at the end of March, the Croatian police tried to stop the car with the registration numbers of BiH, the driver did not stop, after the chase it turned out that there were four people from the Middle East inside.
