Russia and Syria Urged to Support the Elimination of Rukban Camp

Russia and Syria call on the international community to support the idea of liquidating the Rukban camp and ask Jordan to join the refugee return process, the joint statement of the inter-agency coordination headquarters of the Russian Federation and Syria said.

Heads of staff stressed that, thanks to the leadership of Jordan, a 24-hour checkpoint “Nasib” was opened on the Syrian border, through which a significant number of Syrian citizens returning to their homeland passes. During its work in Syria more than 100 thousand Syrians returned.

In addition, the parties noted that the Jordanian authorities, during the civil war in Syria, received about a million citizens and were able to provide them with the necessary conditions for life.

“We appeal to the entire international community to support the idea of eliminating the Rukban camp, this hotbed of violence, crime, and the spread of dangerous infections on the Syrian-Jordanian border,” the statement said.

The Russian Federation and Syria expect that the resettlement of the camp of internally displaced citizens will further stimulate Syrian refugees living in the kingdom to return to their homeland, which is economically feasible for the Jordanian side.

“We ask the leadership of Jordan to join this process and provide all possible assistance for the speedy rescue of people from the Rukban camp,” the report adds.
