The European Union has done a lot to adapt the UK to the Brexit issue, and can’t go further, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Wednesday. At the EU summit this week, the issue of Brexit will be considered, and Juncker downplayed hopes for a breakthrough.
Just nine days before the March 29 release date, uncertainty surrounds Brexit with options, including withdrawal from a British Prime Minister Theresa May’s deal, a short or longer exit delay, exit without a deal, or another referendum.
“There will be no re-negotiations, no new negotiations, no additional guarantees in addition to the data already given,” Juncker told German radio Deutschlandfunk. “We’ve been moving intensively towards Britain, we’ll not be any more.”
He said that, to his knowledge, a letter from May requesting a delay in Brexit had not yet come. Earlier, the BBC and Sky said that May would require a slight delay in a letter to the EU.
“My opinion this morning at a quarter past eight is that we will not agree on anything this week and we will have to meet again next week,” said Juncker, adding that Brexit is not desirable without a deal, but the UK should offer clear and clear sentences.
