France: Thousands march in memory of Grenoble teens killed in police chase

As many as 2,000 people participated in silent white march commemorating two teenagers who died in a collision with a coach while they were being chased by police, in Grenoble on Wednesday.

The families of the deceased teenagers, Fatih Karakuss and Adam Soli, were joined by rally-goers in white shirts and roses.

In a press conference following the march, the lawyer representing the victims’ families contested and contradicted the police’s official report of the incident.

According to the lawyer, despite the police’s allegations, the teenagers’ scooter was indeed equipped with lights and that police lacked justification or motive to give chase to a vehicle being driven by the minors.

The teenagers, aged 17 and 19, were crushed between the coach and a parapet on a bridge as they fled on the scooter late on Saturday evening.

The city of Grenoble has been the scene of intense anti-police riots in the past few days.
