Caracas And Bogota Are No Longer Friends: Venezuela Breaks Off Diplomatic Relations With Colombia

Attempts to deliver unauthorized humanitarian aid to Venezuela on February 23 led to clashes between Venezuelan police and protesters, which subsequently prompted Caracas to sever diplomatic relations with neighboring Colombia.

On February 23, a truck with American humanitarian aid caught fire during an unsuccessful attempt to cross the closed Colombian-Venezuelan border on the Francisco de Paula Santander bridge.

The video shows a burning truck in which one of the protesters landed a Molotov cocktail.

The author of the video at the same time confirmed that the incident was the fault of the protesters: “I have no doubt that the truck with humanitarian aid was set on fire by the protesters from the Colombian side.”

On February 23, the Venezuelan opposition attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to the country from neighboring Colombia and Brazil, which led to clashes with security forces, since Maduro regards these supplies as a ploy to overthrow her government.

The situation in the Latin American country escalated on January 23, when opposition leader Juan Guaydo declared himself interim president, challenging Maduro’s last year’s re-election.
