14 Saturdays of violence – a bit too much for France: MP urges to halt protests

It is time to stop the protracted for three months “yellow vests” manifestations, because fourteen Saturdays of violence and chaos are too much for a European country.

Such a statement was made by the deputy of the legislative district of the Maritime Alps, Eric Chiotti, who had previously supported the protest movement.

“Today I say that the ‘yellow vests’ should stop these strikes, these actions. <…> Fourteen Saturdays of violence is way too much. There was violence. This violence is unbearable, unacceptable and must be stopped. We can no longer tolerate this,” said the parliamentarian.

According to him, the movement of yellow vests, which he initially supported, was “disoriented by violence.” At the same time, Chiotti recalled that as a result of the demonstrations, eleven people were killed and about 3.5 thousand were injured: “Therefore, we must ban the following scheduled events.”

Recall that the first wave of protests swept through France on November 17, 2018. Since then, demonstrations have taken place every Saturday, often accompanied by riots, pogroms and clashes with the police.
