Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro struck out at Europe in a televised interview with CNN Turk in Caracas on Saturday, January 26.
“Unfortunately, Europe is making a big mistake again with Venezuela,” he told the host. “European leaders are in the queue. They are behind, on their knees before Donald Trump’s politics. All of Europe is kneeling before Donald Trump, it’s that simple, especially in the Venezuelan issue.”
The political situation in Venezuela remains unclear after Maduro was sworn in for a second term as president but Venezuelan opposition leader and head of the National Assembly Juan Guaido declared the inauguration illegitimate on January 10, claiming to be interim president himself on January 23.
Within 24 hours, the US and a majority of Latin America recognised Guaido as president and the US announced $20 million (17.5 million euros) in humanitarian aid.
