French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a raft of economic measures in an attempt to pacify the so-called Yellow Vest movement after weeks of violent protests.
Macron, who admitted he’d been keeping a low profile, offered minimum wage increases and tax concessions. In a televised address, the president said he had “heard the anger” of anti-government protesters – and promised that his plans would ease their hardship.
He promised to increase the minimum wage by 100 euros per month from next year.
He also moved to scrap a planned tax rise for low-income pensioners.
