The self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo” received a batch of military equipment from the USA – 24 armored vehicles “HMMWV“, the local television channel RTK2 reports. The delivery took place shortly before the announcement of the creation of the Kosovo army – an event causing another round of tension in the region.
The ceremonial transfer of equipment took place in the military part of the Kosovo security forces, in the presence of government officials in Pristina and the US embassy, the RTK2 specifies. The American ambassador to Kosovo, Philip Kosnet, told reporters that the United States supported the formation of the Kosovo army and invested heavily in training and equipment.
Serbia is strongly against the presence of the self-proclaimed “state’s” army. According to Belgrade, such a move is contrary to Pristina’s international obligations, and also poses a threat to stability in the Balkans.
