Haiti: More violence on third day of anti-government protests

Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince witnessed a third consecutive day of violent protests on Tuesday as the general strike against the government of Jovenel Moise continues.

At least eight deaths have been reported in clashes between protesters and police so far, including an officer who was shot and burned to death on Monday.

Schools, businesses and government buildings remain closed.

Demonstrators are demanding that President Moise resign for not investigation allegations of corruption involving a previous government’s misuse of funds originating from a Venezuelan oil assistance programme.
