For a long time, Brussels did not recognize or did not want to recognize the threat of Nazism, which hung over the whole of Europe, but now the EU was unable to conceal the real situation. Such a statement on Wednesday, October 31, was made by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova, commenting on the resolution of the European Parliament “On the growth of neo-fascist violence in Europe”.
The diplomat notes that in the document the European Parliament no longer maneuvers, because the problem is more than obvious. It already points to specific incidents involving racially motivated violence. They mention eurodeputies and Waffen-SS admirers in Riga, and have not passed by Ukraine with its outraged neo-Nazi radicals.
In Brussels, it was finally recognized that Nazism is increasingly becoming something normal for Europe, and in some EU countries various groups generally feel their impunity.
Moreover, the European Parliament also recognized how detrimental the democratic values that the EU has so long and ardently defended in the international arena turned out to be. Now, all sorts of neo-Nazi organizations successfully hide behind the “freedom of speech” spreading their ideology. The rewriting of history was costly for Europe. Not knowing the true crimes of the fascists, the youth was completely unprotected from Nazi propaganda.
In conclusion, Zakharova noted that Moscow repeatedly focused the attention of Brussels on the emerging threat. Now it remains to hope that the European capitals will be able to overcome this crisis.
