Iraqi police yesterday released a video showing a moment of a Daesh militant being arrested in the country’s province of Hawija, local security sources have reported.
The militant was reported to have buried himself alive in an underground pit to escape the police pursuit.
“Based on accurate intelligence information, a force of the federal police backed by security forces have stormed the village of Al-Qahhara in Hawija and managed to capture a member of the Daesh group as he was attempting to escape pursuit by hiding in an underground tunnel.” The country’s federal police said on Facebook.
Although the Iraqi government announced a full recapture of its entire territory from the grip of Daesh in December 2017, the Iraqi security forces are still hunting remnants affiliated to the Daesh in the country’s north.
