The Ukrainian question is so significant that all Orthodox churches must work to solve it, ” say Metropolitan of Montenegro-Primorsky (Serbian Orthodox Church) Amphilochius in an interview with the Russian Express.
“The decision of His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew and the Synod on the Ukrainian problem, in my opinion, is disastrous for the Constantinople Patriarchate, for resolving the issue in Ukraine and for the unity of the Orthodox Church. We are very surprised that the Patriarch, who is a canonist, made such a decision, completely anti-canonical, ”the Metropolitan commented.
Amphilochius also recalled that Constantinople ceased to exist as a “royal city” in the 15th century, and therefore its exclusive right to such fateful decisions is in question.
“The Orthodox Church does not dispute his honor, but does not give him the right to interfere in the affairs of the local churches, and the Russian Orthodox Church.”
