US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jon-un on Sunday for talks on denuclearisation, the State Department announced on Tuesday.
Pompeo will travel first to Japan, before heading to Pyongyang, with two more legs in South Korea and China, spokesperson Heather Nauert said.
She felt the trip showed “forward progress and momentum” in negotiations.
It will be Pompeo’s fourth visit to North Korea as the two sides seek an agreement on ending North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missiles programme.
