The European Union would be unwilling to compromise on the question of trade and jeopardise its internal market in the Brexit talks with the United Kingdom, according to German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a presser at the Salzburg summit on Thursday.
“There can be no compromise on the issue of the internal market,” said Merkel despite praising some aspects of the Chequers Brexit plan put forth by UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
“You can’t belong to the internal market if you’re not part of the internal market,” she added.
