Canada: 1 dead, 13 injured after gunman opened fire in Toronto’s neighbourhood

 

One woman was left dead and at least another 13 injured after a shooting in Toronto’s Greektown neighbourhood on Sunday night.

According to Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders, the shooting occurred around 22:00 local time on Sunday night (02:00 GMT on Monday) with the assailant firing multiple shots through the window of a restaurant.

Fourteen people were injured in the shooting, including a young girl that remains in critical condition in hospital, with one victim eventually succumbing to her wounds, before the police shot and killed the assailant during an exchange of gunfire.

According to local media, eyewitnesses described the gunman as a white man wearing a black cap and a bandana. The motive is still not yet clear.
