Former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and his successor Quim Torra announced the creation of a new movement for the independence of Catalonia.
According to the Spanish press, the organization aims to “unconditional” the establishment of an independent Catalan Republic.
The manifesto of the new organization was read out in Barcelona, together with an appeal to the people to join the movement. By the morning the movement received more than 13,000 applications for membership.
“The people have always believed in the referendum on independence and, despite all the difficulties, did not give up,” Pudzdemont said. “We must continue to fight even when faced with unreasonable repression and not deviate from our true goal: the establishment of the Independent Catalan Republic.”
