Pashinyan’s empty-handed return: did Europe lie about their promises?

The visit of the Armenian Prime Minister to the NATO summit was presented in the republic as a serious victory even a few weeks before the trip. Although the effectiveness of Nikola Pashinyan’s visit was questioned, he nevertheless went to the summit, using this opportunity, rather, as a PR move in his political game.

But, as it turned out, few people at the summit were dealing with Armenia and its revolutionary prime minister.

As Pashinyan himself later admitted, during the trip he could not understand the position of the European Union towards Armenia. No matter how loud the European leaders are talking about the “velvet revolution”, they never consolidated their statements with actions.

“The day before it was a statement that the European Union is preparing to help Armenia in the amount of 160 million euros. But this is the amount of assistance that was somehow provided for Armenia by the EU, “Pashinyan said at a briefing for the Armenian press in Brussels following the summit.

“I told our partners that despite the fact that earlier this figure was not made public, I am aware that a few months ago it was already, that is, nothing has changed,” the head of the government of the republic added, confessing that, as if did not respond in a friendly manner to Europe about Armenia, Brussels’ position has not changed.

According to him, he expected much more and more concrete from the summit, which the leaders of countries, concerned with their real problems, simply could not and did not want to present.

“Frankly, I made it clear to our partners that this is not very clear and not entirely acceptable. But, on the other hand, I repeat, we are not in the position of asking, it is their choice, their decision, what policy to pursue. When they are determined, we will formalize our attitude to their policy, “said Nikol Pashinyan.
