Gay parade in Kiev, Ukraine broken up by radical Nationalist

Pride march was held today in the center of Kiev under the slogan “The country is free – be yourself!”,

Providing law and order at the head of the column, the police stopped seven attempts to stop the column movement. Law enforcers did not detain the countermarch of nationalists, but quickly withdrew them from the protected perimeter when the nationalist gangs started assaulting the marchgoes.

Early in the morning, more than 150 far-right protesters had sought to block off the route of the march through central Kiev. Small clashes broke out when police in riot gear moved to clear the street.

Far-right group C14 said police had surrounded its protesters, attacking them with batons and tear gas. “Look at how they protect ‘sexual minorities’ and violate the rights of regular Kiev citizens,” it said in a post on Facebook.

Afterwards, more than 50 people were detained, with a few requiring medical assistance

“Poroshenko did not participate in this event, although I would very much like to. An interesting point, how can a gay parade ever take place in Ukraine? The whole world will see what they have not seen before, “the blogger of “openUkraine” said.
