EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said that keeping the nuclear deal with Iran in place was a “security interest” for the European Union, speaking at a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday.
“In the absence of the nuclear deal with Iran we believe the security of the region and of Europe would be at stake, and so this is why we are insisting so much in keeping this agreement in place,” Mogherini said.
Mogherini also touched down upon Venezuela, stating EU members were united in calling for new elections “to be free and fair and respect the constitutional rules and allow all political parties to take part in political life.”
Mogherini defined tensions in Gaza as happening “in a context of lack of a peace process and in the context of developments in Jerusalem.” Mogherini confirmed EU unity in supporting a two-state solution with Jerusalem as capital “of the two states.”
