Londoners protest over strikes in Syria

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the British Parliament in London on Monday, to protest against UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s decision to coordinate an airstrike response with France and the US against Syria.

Protesters with signs reading “Peace for Syria” and “Stop bombing Syria” chanted “Not in my name” outside the parliament.

Labour MP Emma Dent Coad said that Theresa May has made a “huge mistake.”

“We should have waited for the results of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and for UN Security Council’s agreement if it was forthcoming”, she added.

The US, UK and France launched airstrikes against multiple government targets in Damascus early on Saturday morning, targeting Syrian civil and military facilities.

The airstrikes were in response to a claim of a supposed chemical weapons attack on Douma last week. Syria and Russia have both denied the allegations, calling them ‘staged’ and a ‘fabrication.’
