Press gathered as former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was seen leaving by car the Judiciary Police offices in Nanterre on Wednesday, after he was charged with corruption and illegal campaign financing in Libya’s 2007 election, and receiving Libyan public funds.
Sarkozy was arrested on Tuesday over allegations that he received as much as €50 million (US $62 million) of illegal funding from the government of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to fund his presidential campaign in 2007.
Sarkozy and his associates have denied the allegations.
