Red Crescent workers were dispatched to the Wafideen evacuation corridor in Eastern Ghouta on Wednesday, to provide assistance to local residents in need, as the corridor opened for a second day.
However the Russian Ministry of Defence has stated that some 300 residents were not able to use the corridor due to shelling by militants, after having gathered near the evacuation route.
The evacuation corridor as well as the ceasefire were announced on Monday by Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on President Vladimir Putin’s order and is intended to allow for the evacuation of sick and wounded, and for civilians to leave the enclave.
