Denmark: US Embassy reopens after bomb squad investigation

The US Embassy in the Danish capital of Copenhagen was put on lockdown after a ‘suspicious item’ was found on Wednesday, but later reopened following an investigation by a bomb squad unit.

The item was discovered near the Embassy, according to the Copenhagen Police Twitter account, who immediately evacuated the building.

People were advised to stay away from the area as an investigation got underway with a heavy police presence at the scene.

The police later tweeted ‘the package was determined not to be suspicious’ and that the lockdown has been called off.

The Embassy neighbours its Russian, German and British counterparts.
