Russia and Japan intensified dialogue on military issues

The Russian Defense Ministry welcomes the activation of Russian-Japanese relations and is ready to develop political dialogue and practical cooperation, said the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Valery Gerasimov following a meeting with Defense Minister of Japan Itsunori Onodera.

“Japan is our important neighbor, we pay special attention on the development of relations, and we are pleased to note that the activation of Russian-Japanese relations has begun,” Gerasimov said.

“We are ready to develop political dialogue and practical cooperation with Japan on the basis of the agreements of the leaders reached during the series of summits over the past year,” he stressed.

According to the Chief of the General Staff, the military intends to pay special attention to the implementation of the positive agenda agreed upon by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“We proceed from the fact that a new vector of bilateral relations has been set, aimed at renewing cooperation in the former volume, which requires an energetic joint work,” said the chief of the General Staff.
