Russia’s Prosecutor General asks US to initiate criminal case against Browder

Prosecutor General Yury Chaika asked a colleague from the US to institute criminal proceedings against the well-known financier William Browder, as well as to review the “Magnitsky Act”.

“I sent two letters to the US Attorney General asking him to open a criminal case and appoint an independent prosecutor,” he told on Tuesday.

According to Chaika, the Prosecutor General’s Office sent to the US more than 1,000 documents about Browder’s crimes in the Russian Federation.

“In July of last year, we sent a huge array of documents on international assistance – more than 1,000 sheets of documents – with the request to provide us with legal aid or to initiate criminal proceedings in the US against the  Ziff brothers and Browder.” Unfortunately, despite repeated contacts, this has not happened yet”, The Prosecutor General of Russia stated.

In the second letter, Chaika called on his American counterpart to review the “Magnitsky Act”, expressing the opinion that the law was adopted without grounds for lobbying people who committed crimes in Russia.
