Police cordoned off an area of Brussels’ Sainte Catherine neighbourhood, on Friday night, after a man was fatally shot having attempted to stab two soldiers.
The incident happened at around 20:20 local time, in an area of the Belgian capital that is often bustling on a Friday evening.
According to Belgian state tv channel RTBF, the assailant shouted “Allahu Akbar” before attacking the soldiers.
Brussels was targeted in a series of attacks in March 2016, leaving 32 dead, the deployment of soldiers on Brussels’ streets are part of security measures implemented shortly after last March.
