German police clashed with protesters as they cleared hundreds of peaceful anti-G20 activists who had staged a sleep-in protest at the Altona Volkspark in Hamburg, Wednesday.
Following the deployment of water cannons and bulldozers overnight, police used tear gas in attempts to clear the remaining protesters and their tents from the park. Hundreds of police trucks and riot gear-equipped officers lined the surrounding streets.
A series of protest actions are expected in Hamburg during the G20 Summit which is taking place between July 7-8 in the German port city.
