Russia calls emergency UN meeting on US airstrikes

United Nations, New York. The Russian Federation is going to call for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council following the airstrikes by the American coalition forces against pro-government forces in Syria, said the First Deputy of the Federation Council on Defense and Security Committee, Franz Klintsevich.

Council leader Klintsevich stressed that the airstrike by the American military is yet another act of aggression. “The attack by the US-led coalition is the coalition directly entering into open military conflict with Syria.

This is an act of aggression, Russia will immediately raise the question of convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council,” Klintsevich said. He noted that it was a “purposeful action, with the goal of weakening the offensive of the pro-government forces”.

The international coalition’s aircraft attacked pro-government forces in Syria within the designated de-escalation zone in the south of the country, according to the statement circulated by the operation headquarters of Inherent Resolve, which is conducted in Iraq and Syria by a coalition of countries headed by the US.

Despite the warnings, tanks, artillery, anti-aircraft defense and other military equipment of the pro-government forces, as well as nearly 60 soldiers, entered into the established de-escalation zone, threatening the forces of the coalition and its partners located at the Al-Tanf base, the American version of the event states.
