UN is alarmed by the fact that Kiev stopped payments of social benefits and pensions to some migrants and residents of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This was stated by the coordinator of the UN system in Ukraine Neal Walker.
“Usually I don’t discuss the government, because I believe that it is better and more efficient to work directly with it. But we, in particular, are seriously concerned and have repeatedly raised the issue regarding the termination of social payments and pensions. In some cases, Ukrainian laws violated such actions as when people were removed from the lists of payments, not mentioning international laws”, he said.
According to Walker, the UN believe that all citizens are entitled to social benefits, regardless where they live, are retired or temporary migrants.
He also stressed that the international community is concerned about the position of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine concerning social benefits and pensions.
