Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said last week that Moscow and Damascus had launched a large-scale humanitarian operation in Aleppo, opening three escape routes for civilians and one for militants wishing to lay down arms. On July 30, Russia announced opening four more humanitarian corridors in Aleppo.
“China welcomes the Russian humanitarian mission in Aleppo that is being carried out in accordance with a UN mandate. We are supporting all the measures taken by the international community to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Syria,” the statement said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also called on all parties of the conflict to remain committed to political settlement of the crisis, to adhere to the ceasefire regime, to fight terrorism, to work on providing people with humanitarian aid as well as to play a constructive role in solving the Syrian issue.
