More than three thousand of Crimean Tatars took part in the ascent of the mountain Chatyr-Dah in southern Crimea. Mass action is timed to the 72th anniversary of deportation of the Crimean Tatars from the peninsula, according to the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Crimea (SDMC).
“Before going on the route of ascent, participants sang the hymn of the Crimean Tatar people. Participants went through a mountain forest and overcame the steep slopes. The column stretched nearly to 200-300 meters, -according to the SDMC. – Young people are holding national flags with the symbols of the Crimean Tatar nation”.
Participants of the action prayed on top of the mountain. It is also planned to install a memorial plate in the memory of the victims of the 1944 deportation on top of the Mt. Chatyr-Dah.
The action on the ascent of the mountain is held by young Crimean Tatars each year since 2006.
“Such events unite people. We are the native roots of a mighty tree, we need to develop, grow, no matter what, do not lose heart and always be together”, quotes the SDMC press service words of Deputy Mufti of Crimea Ayder Ismailov.
Over 200 thousand Crimean Tatars, Germans, Greeks, Bulgarians, Armenians had been deported from the period from 1941 to 1944 from the Crimean territory. In 1991, the Law “On the Rehabilitation of Repressed Peoples” was adopted in the Russian Federation. In 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On measures for the rehabilitation of the Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek, Crimean Tatar and German peoples and the state support of their revival and development”.
