Over 80 French MPs prepare to lift Russian sanctions

A whole group of French MPs filed a statement to the country’s President Francois Hollande with the requirement to lift the sanctions against Russia.

The authors are mostly from the opposition centre-right Sarkozy Republicans party (LR). They brought the resolution to the Parliament which calls on Hollande to lift sanctions against Russia.

The movement created on the initiative of Thierry Mariani. MPs emphasize the high cost of Russian counter-sanctions on French farmers and the loss of French arms sales to Russia.

The statement said the sanctions were “ineffective” to change the situation in Ukraine, and that France should cooperate with Russia to defeat the ISIS jihadists.

The resolution would be discussed in parliament on April 28.
