Western sanctions against Russia will not be successful, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Thursday during the XIII Eurasian Media Forum.
“The sanctions imposed on Russia by the West are wrong. They will not be successful,” he said.
For his part, former UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw noted the sanctions were justified, adding that they do not work at times. However, he expressed the hope that relations between Russia and the West would change for the better.
Taking part in the forum, a non-political and non-profit organization, whose aim is to openly discuss pressing issues of the East and the West, are about 300 speakers and more than 400 delegates from 50 countries. These are prominent economists, politicians, journalists and public figures. During the two-day forum its participants will discuss the present and future of the global economy, the geopolitical consequences of transformations in the Arab world, the prospects of the European Union, information wars of the 21st century, the image of the oil-producing countries and the influence of television and film industry on society.
