The wooden building, originally built in 1948, was slated to house asylum seekers as early as next week.

The fire that irreparably damaged the two-storey apartment building in Kankaanpää broke out Tuesday morning was still burning at 10 am, preventing police from beginning an investigation.

At a press conference around 10 am, police said that the destruction of the building would not prevent asylum seekers from being housed at other facilities in the area.

Kankaanpää is about an hour’s drive northwest from the city of Pori.
